What happens when I book a discovery call?

What is a discovery call?

Simply put, a discovery call is a short call between a you and your potential coach. It serves a few purposes:

  • You can see if you like the coach, and if you think you'd work well together

  • You can tell the coach more about what you need, and see whether they're able to support

  • You can lay the ground rules for what the coaching experience will be like

With that said, here's what to expect when you book a discovery call with me.

1. Let's skip the small talk

Small talk is awkward, and neither of us are here to talk about the weather. We'll get to the real point of the conversation straight away, as I outlined in the bullet points above.

2. I'll ask why you're looking for a coach

Guided by my questions, this is a chance for you to info dump about why you're looking for a coach, and what you're hoping to get out of it. We'll talk about what's going on for you at the moment, and what you'd like instead. This is about discovering whether and how coaching can make a difference in your life and career.

I'll always tell you if I don't think coaching will help your situation, or if you need a different service like therapy.

3. We'll talk about coaching

After we've talked about what you're looking for, I'll tell you about how I can support you. You can ask as many questions about how it all works as you want. My prices are on my website, so you won't have to worry about getting a quote you're not expecting during a discovery call with me.

3. Co-design

We'll go through my bespoke flow-chart of customisation and adjustment options to ensure that we can work together in a way that's most effective for you. You'll have the opportunity to choose things like whether the sessions are in person, video call, or telephone call. This is just to introduce the options - you can go away and think about it.

4. Next steps

I'll always encourage you to take some time to think before making an investment in coaching. I'll never use pushy sales tactics; as autistic people, we need time to process so I won't ask you to make a decision about whether you'd like to work with me during the call. I'll email you the next day, and then a week later to answer any more questions, and see whether you'd like to go ahead with working together. You can always say no - there's no pressure here.
